How Do I Know Which Supplier to Choose?

Many electric suppliers work with PPL customers. Since Pennsylvania deregulated its energy sector, there has been no shortage of companies offering homeowners fixed and variable rate plans. However, it's important to know what to look for when choosing suppliers. Here are some things to consider:

  • Contract details: Does the supplier offer fixed rate or variable plans? How long will you be committed? What happens if you want to change or leave early?
  • Pricing: How does the supplier's price of electricity compare to PPL's residential rates — be sure to look at them not just at the moment, but historically, too — what seems like a good deal when prices are at their highest may not be worth it over the course of the year, and vice-versa.
  • Reputation: How long has the company been in business? What is their reputation? Many PPL electric suppliers seemed to spring up overnight when the market deregulated — while working with a new company isn't necessarily a bad thing, many homeowners prefer to get their electricity from a source they know will be around for years to come.

Why Shipley Energy?

Shipley Energy has been helping Pennsylvania meet its fuel and energy needs since 1929. Our reputation is something we're proud of — when we decided to enter the deregulated electricity market, we knew we had to offer plans and rates that worked for homeowners. Energy Efficiency Programs

It's worth remembering that a fixed rate electric plan doesn't mean your bill is the same each month — instead, it means the rate you pay per unit of electricity stays constant. As a result, it doesn't eliminate the incentive to conserve energy.

If you're considering choosing Shipley Energy as your PPL electric supplier, we can help you find ways to reduce your consumption. Contact us to learn more about our energy efficiency programs.
